Exit Exams
State of California Exit Examinations are given to
high school students who are nearing graduation. These pupils are
given more than one chance to pass this test before they can participate
in a graduation ceremony. Are some students passed along just
because administrators do not know what else to do with them?
Perhaps some kids don't understand what it means to have structure, yet
they're expected to perform miracles at the eleventh hour (so to speak).
A test of a kid's knowledge is based on how much they
have learned or how well they retained the information fed to them by
teachers and text book data. Their future hinges upon whether or
not they go to college based on their test results.
Likewise, teachers are given competency tests and are
given more than one chance to pass; they pray for an overall
passing score so that they can become certified. Prospective
teachers are tested for their knowledge which is based o how much they
remember and how well prepared they are to teach our children.
Teachers must pass the test because their future depends upon their
dream job.
Similarly, some kids can't pass test, this is an
enigma. "When We All Get To Heaven" makes um think of death as a
graduation ceremony. Like a classroom, we already know that we'll
have an exit exam.
- Did I do my part to help others?
- Was I courteous even when I wasn't in the mood?
- Did I respect other's rights?
- Did I make the right choices?
This is one exit exam that we don't want to retake.
"This world is not our home, We're just passing through". So
let's live like we care.
