Humble Yourselves in the Sight of the
Lord
First, a word on Friends
and Family Day. We had a good crowd for Friends and Family Day last week.
If you were not able to be here let me say that you missed something
special. We enjoyed three excellent lessons by brother Earl Edwards and
wonderful fellowship in between. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a
success. I believe if we start working right now there is no reason we
cannot hit 300 next year.
And now, something to think
about. Does it seem to you that nearly everyone wants to be served rather
than to serve? James said in James 4:10, “Humble yourselves in the sight of
the Lord, and he shall life you up.” Do you ever find yourself wondering
what happened to humility? I know I do. Some like to be top man on the
totem pole, no matter how many they have to step on or over to get there.
So concerned with their own wants and wishes, they don’t take time to look
to the needs of their brother or sister and offer the help so desperately
sought.
Jesus was the perfect
example of humility. No job was beneath him. He saw what needed to be
done—and did it. He fed the hungry, healed the sick and raised the dead—all
with great humility. In John chapter thirteen we read how the Son of God
took on the most menial of tasks and washed his disciples’ feet.
Often times we mistake true
humility for weakness. But none of us would call Christ weak. Let us
strive to follow his example.
In Love,
