Reading through the Bible
Have you set the goal of reading through the Bible in 2006? If
so, congratulations! It is a noble venture and will bring great
dividends spiritually. Job said, "I have esteemed the words of His
mouth more than my necessary food." (Job 23:12) God fed Israel in
the wilderness with manna, but stated, "Man does not live on bread alone,
but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord." (Deut. 8:3)
It is a fact that most people in America own at least one Bible, about
93%. About 18% of those claiming to believe in Christ say they read
the Bible every day, while 55% read it less often than daily, but at least
weekly. 23% do not read the Bible at all.
There are 1,189 chapters in the Bible, so that means one could read it
through in a year by reading 3-4 chapters each day.
There are a number of interesting facts about the Bible. The
number of Bibles sold, given away or otherwise distributed in the U.S. is
about 168,000 per day. There are 8.674 different Hebrew words in the
Bible, 5.624 different Greek words and 12,143 different English words in
the King James version. There are 31,101 verses; 783,137 words;
3,566,480 letters in the Bible. The longest name is
Mahershalalhashbaz (Isa. 8:1), the longest verse is Esther 8:9 (78 words),
while the shortest verse John 11:35, "Jesus wept". The middle verse
is Psalm 118:8; the middle chapter is Psalm 117. The shortest
chapter is Psalms 117. The longest book is Psalms - 150 chapters.
