Taking Inventory
Well,
our meeting is just a week away. Are you ready? Please make plans to be
here every night—and bring someone with you! It seems like gospel meetings
do not get the attention they once did. Even I can remember when meetings
lasted all week, even through Saturday night. Would you believe it was once
common for meetings to last two weeks, even a month? And every member came
every night.
What
has changed? The gospel message is the same. Sure, the speakers are
different, but the message is the same. If the message hasn’t changed it
must be us. Maybe we’re working longer hours. Perhaps we just have too
many other things to do. It couldn’t be that we are just aren’t
interested. Could it? I came across something and thought it would be
helpful for us all; it really makes you think:
Just like store owners need to take inventory from time to time, so do
Christians. Answering the following questions will help each of us take
“spiritual inventory.”
1.
If each member attended as many services as I do, how often would the
building be closed?
2.
If each one attended Bible study as I do, how many would be there?
3.
If each one prayed as I do, how much praying would there be?
4.
If each member tried to sing as hard as I do, what kind of singing
would there be?
5.
If each member invited others to services like I do, how many guests
would attend?
6.
If each one gave as many excuses as I do, who would do the Lord’s
work?
7.
If each member put the kingdom of God first just as I do, what would
be the condition of the church?
Are
you putting the kingdom of God first? Would the church be stronger or
weaker if every member acted just like you do all the time?
In His love,
