The Body of Christ
Ephesians
1:15-23
Christians are the
body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:27). It is easy enough to understand how we can
be separate members yet one body. While we do not have the same talents and
abilities, we all work together in harmony. But have you ever considered
that, as Christ’s body, we have certain responsibilities?
Paul
says that Christ has been seated at the right hand of God “in heavenly
places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every
name that is named…” and that all things are “in subjection under His feet.”
(Eph. 1:20-22). He is King of kings and Lord of lords. And we are His
body. If the will of Christ is to be carried out on earth it is us who will
see it done.
Paul
says, “Even when we were dead in our transgressions” God made us alive with
Christ and “raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly
places” (Eph. 2:5-6). We are the body over which Christ is the head. We
are alive in Him and He lives in us. But we are not made alive to do as we
please but we are “created in Christ Jesus for good works which God
prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them” (Eph. 2:10).
In all
that we do, then, we must remember that we are the body of the Lord Jesus.
Are we doing what He would have us do? Are we behaving as he would have us
behave? Are we dressing as he would have us dress? Are we going where he
would have us go? When someone looks at me do they see Christ? Let us all
bear in mind that we are not our own but we are bought with a price (1 Cor.
6:20).
On a
separate note: Thank you! To everyone who helped make VBS a success. Much
hard work and prayer goes into VBS every year and this year was no
exception. We had strong numbers every night and many of you helped to make
it all work smoothly. Special thanks goes to Chris for all of his hard work
in planning and coordinating. And we can’t forget the teachers and helpers,
yours was the toughest job of all—thanks so much!
