The Church is the Right Way
The
Bible speaks often of a path or way men must travel in order to reach
heaven. God said in Isaiah 35:8, “And a highway shall be there, and a way
and it shall be called the way of holiness.” Jesus spoke of a “narrow way”
which leads to heaven saying, “Enter ye in at the straight gate…Because
strait is the gate and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few
there be that find it.” Many are seeking the way to heaven but, for many,
it remains a mystery.
Jesus
opened the way to heaven. The Hebrew writer declares this in Hebrews
10:19-20, “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by
the blood of Jesus, by an new and living way, which he hath consecrated for
us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh.” This way into heaven is
by the blood of Jesus. The clean are the ones who walk the way that leads
to heaven, and it is the blood of Christ that cleanses from all sin (1 John
1:7).
The
church is called “the way” in Acts 9:1, 2. When Saul was persecuting
disciples of the way, he was persecuting Christ. When Jesus appeared to
Saul on the Damascus road he inquired, “Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou
me?” Saul asked who was speaking to him and was told, “I am Jesus whom thou
persecutest” (Acts 9:3, 4). The saved are cleansed by the blood of Christ
and the Lord adds the saved to the church (Acts 2:47). When the saved are
added to the church they are in the way that leads to heaven.
Jesus
said, “I am the way…no man cometh unto the Father but by me” (John 14:6).
All who are seeking the way to eternal life must enter through Jesus, by His
blood. They are then added to His church which was purchased with His
blood. There is no other way.
