About The Church of Christ

The Church of Christ

1. You may read about it in the Bible. Rom 16:16
2. It has no creed but Christ, and binds no name on its members except the Divine. Acts 11:26
3. It speaks where the Bible speaks and is silent where the Bible is silent. Gal 1:7-9; Pet 4:11; Rev 22:18-19
4. Its founder is Christ himself. Matt 16:18
5. It exalts Christ as the only head of the Church. Eph 1:22-23; 5:23; Col 1:18
6. It is not a denomination, nor a group of denominations, but simply the body of Christ. Rom 12:4-5; Cor 12:13-27; Eph 4:4-5; Col 1:18
7. It pleads for the unity of all believers in Christ. John 17:20-21; Col 1:18
8. Its aim is to save souls by preaching the gospel. Rom 1:16

What Must I Do To Be Saved

1. Hear the gospel. John 20:30-31; Rom 10:17
2. Believe the gospel. Rom 1:16; Acts 18:8; Heb 11:6
3. Repent. Luke 13:3; 24:47; Acts 3:19; 17:30
4. Confess faith in Christ. Matt 10:32; Acts 8:37; Rom 10:10

Our goal is to focus on the "whole counsel of God" and here is a brief summary of some of the teachings you can expect.

LOVE - We are a family of believers who accept each other because God has accepted each of us.
"We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves...Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God." Ro. 15:1,7

BIBLE - The Bible is inspired and is the final authority in life and doctrine. The Bible reveals one true God existing as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each possessing the attributes of the deity.
"All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Ti. 3:16-17

GRACE - Salvation is a free gift of God. The only sufficient payment for our sins is the death of Christ as our substitute. No one is saved by his own merits or good deeds.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast." Ep. 2:8-9

RESPONSE - It is necessary to respond to God's free offer of salvation by faith, repentance, and baptism. As we confess Christ as our Lord and are baptized by immersion, God meets us, forgives our sins, and gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit.
"Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.' " Acts. 2:38

WORSHIP - God has delivered us from sin and called us to be a people of worship. Through our daily living and our Lord's Day (Sunday) assemblies, we give God praise for His delivering us from sin.
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God -- this is your spiritual act of worship." Ro, 12:1
"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praised of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." 1 Pe. 2:9

UNITY "Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit -- just as you were called to one hope when you were called -- one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." Ep. 4:3-6

ORGANIZATION - We are a non-denominational autonomous church family with no ties to any earthly headquarters. Jesus is the head of the church, which is His body. Elders (a term used interchangeably in scripture with "pastor" and "bishop") serve as leaders by shepherding the flock (feeding and protecting), giving spiritual counsel, and overseeing decisions affecting the church family.
"To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder...Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers -- not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but each to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock." 1 Pe. 5:1-3

MINISTRY - God gives us abilities we are to use in service to one another and to the world. We do not work and serve to be saved, but rather to express our gratitude for God's gift of eternal life.
"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." 1 Pe. 4:10

LIFESTYLE - Our lifestyle must be affected by our commitment to Christ: He died for me; I'll live for him. The Holy Spirit works in Christians to produce fruit to remake the believer into Christ's image.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." Gal. 5:22-23

"Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did." 1 John 2:6
