Are We Glad

David declared, “I was glad when they said unto me, ‘Let us go into the house of the Lord.’”  David was not alone in his attitude toward worship.  Abraham was a man of great faith who built many altars for the offering of sacrifice during his pilgrimage.  In fact, it has been said that Abraham’s steps could easily be traced simply by following the smoke from the altars he built.  The early church “continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine, and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:42).  The apostle Paul never missed an opportunity to worship.  He and Silas even sang hymns and prayed with their feet in stocks in Philippi.  These are but a few examples of individuals who were glad to worship.

Has our attitude about worship changed?  Are we still glad when the time comes to “go into the house of the Lord?”  Do we see worship as a privilege or more of a duty?  I ask this of the church as a whole and of us here at Pond.  Attendance is up on Sunday morning, which is good.  We just finished a record setting VBS, which is very good.  But, at the same time, attendance at gospel meetings has dropped off.  This seems to be, at the very least, inconsistent. It does us all a great deal of good to examine our attitude about worship from time to time.  We should ask ourselves, on a regular basis, “Am I excited about the opportunities I have to worship God?  Do I look forward to every occasion that is provided to meet with the saints and offer sacrifices of praise and prayer to the Almighty?  Is my goal in worship to please or merely to appease?”

Beloved, think on these things…
