A Few Simple Truths
People often ask, “What does the church believe on this or that point?” In many cases this can be a difficult question to answer, for one finds a great variety of ideas among Christians. Even in New Testament times Christians held different views in some areas. So how is one to answer when faced with such a Question? There is no absolute, authoritative guide except the Bible. As Christians we must turn to the word of God when seeking answers to spiritual questions. While we may not agree on every matter of opinion, when we follow the Bible we will know how to answer. Here are a few simple truths found in the Bible.
- God is alive and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him (Hebrew 11:6). Because God is, we may seek Him. Because He rewards, we want to seek Him. Without such confidence Christianity would be worthless and all human effort without hope or direction.
- God, who exist and rewards, also loves us (John 3:16; 1 John 4:16). We believe that God loves us, because of what He has done in His Son Jesus Christ. God is for us, and He wishes us to respond to Him in with confidence.
- Jesus is “in” the Father and the Father is “in” Jesus (John 14:11). All we need to know of the Father we may see in Jesus Christ. When we look at Jesus we always see the nature of God the Father in human flesh. What Jesus Did for sinners is the express will and purpose of the Father.
- If we have died with Christ we shall also live with Him (Romans 6:8). This is our great hope of the future! We must all die to sin and be raised again to live for God. Only then do we have the assurance of life eternal.
